OVERVIEW
Poets Translating Poets, a two-year project was initiated in Oktober 2014 by the Goethe-Institut-Mumbai, in collaboration with Literaturwerkstatt Berlin,with an aim to create a platform for poets from South Asia and Germany to translate each other’s works.
BRIEF
Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan was trying to address the need to transcend boundaries of language and culture, amongst poets from South Asia and Germany.
APPROACH SUGGESTED
The Art X Company offered to curate and manage Poets Translating Poets - a festival, exploring ideas of diversity, identity, and multiculturalism through poetry, nudging at the boundaries between poetry and other forms of art, as well as a celebration of poetry in performance.

OUTCOME
A three day festival consisting of - presentations, readings, panel discussions, translation workshops, film screenings, performances, a sound installation and a photography exhibition was put together by the Art X team.
Thirty pieces on aspects related to contemporary poetry in South Asia were commissioned by Rashmi Dhanwani - the curator of the festival.
51 poets created 280 translations of 187 poems in 20 languages!
